What do these spacers do?
These spacers work as a pair to keep the 6th gear caged needle bearing correctly positioned inside the transmission — one sits on top of the bearing and one sits below it, sandwiching it in place. Two spacers are required per transmission. These are specific to triple-cone T56 applications and are not used on single-cone T56 units.
When would you need these spacers?
These are not routine wear items — they typically need replacement when surrounding components have been damaged and one or both spacers were lost or compromised. A common example is heat damage from a nearby component burning up. If either spacer is missing, the 6th gear needle bearing will move around inside the transmission — leading to bearing noise, accelerated wear, and potential damage to surrounding components. If one is missing or damaged, replace both before reassembly.
