What does it do?
The reverse synchro key retaining plate holds the reverse synchronizer keys securely in position, preventing them from being pushed out of place during operation. Without it correctly seated, the reverse synchro keys are vulnerable to displacement — leading to key damage and potential collateral damage to surrounding components.
When would you need to replace it?
This is not a routine wear item. Two common scenarios require replacement. The first is collateral damage — if a nearby component fails, it can compromise this plate in the process. The second is repeated installation — if the plate has been removed and reinstalled too many times across multiple rebuilds, it can lose its proper fitment and no longer seat correctly.
