Why bearing setup matters
Getting the bearing preload correct during a TR6060 rebuild is critical — the consequences of getting it wrong show up immediately and expensively. Bearings set too tight will generate noise under load and wear prematurely under the heat and stress of normal driving. Bearings set too loose will develop accelerated wear over time, eventually leading to bearing failure and potential transmission damage. The correct shim thickness is the difference between a transmission that performs flawlessly for years and one that comes back with problems shortly after the rebuild.
