If you’re rebuilding a 2.97 ratio T56 transmission and need to replace the cluster gear, this is a rare opportunity. We have accumulated a large quantity of these countershafts and will be liquidating them as a one-time deal — all used take-offs in excellent condition — and are offering them at a price that reflects that. Once this stock is gone, it’s gone for good.

While an aftermarket replacement for this countershaft does exist and is a quality option, there is simply no substitute for the original Tremec OE part. The OE countershaft was manufactured to Tremec’s own exacting specifications and represents the gold standard for this application. If you have the opportunity to install an original Tremec countershaft in your rebuild, this is it — and at liquidation pricing, there’s no reason not to.

When would you need to replace the cluster gear?

The cluster gear is not a routine wear item. It typically needs replacement when the gear teeth have been damaged — most commonly the result of overheating or a hard breakage event. When the teeth are damaged, smooth gear engagement is no longer possible and replacement is the only fix.
